Apartment Therapy: Jody's Eclectic Composition (cont.)
Like my found object art, my apartment is a composition of furnishings from baroque to primitive, of rich colors and textures, of comfort and whimsy.
My husband and I bought this 2 bedroom co-op in Queens, New York nearly 5 years ago, which was positively liberating! It allowed me to put crazy color on the walls, something I had never done as a renter. The apartment came together with ease, by introducing color harmonies and a few new pieces to our existing furnishings. Most of our collection is vintage, antique, and flea market and thrift store finds, and the occasional treasure picked off the sidewalks of New York.
My greatest challenge was how to house our 46" TV and its components. Nothing I found in any of the shops could accommodate the receiver, so I chose some reclaimed lengths of Victorian fencing and old marble slabs from Olde Good Things, and had them construct shelving based on my design. I love the results, as it complements my antique coffee table, and my taste for rusted, chipped, ornate cast and wrought metal.
