Hi! I'm Jody (the blur on the right).
I am a professional makeup artist based in New York City specializing in beauty makeup and grooming for headshots, weddings, press, e-commerce, and special events. I do light hair styling as well. Q & A with myself.Q: How long have you been doing makeup?
A: My entire adult life. I'll let you guess how long that is - feel free to flatter me. Actually, I’ve been doing makeup since high school, for the school's theatrical productions. My most concentrated year was between high school and college, when I lived in Cambridge, England. I was fortunate to have done makeup for nine theatrical productions with The ADC, Footlights, and The Gilbert & Sullivan Society, to name a few. Q: What is your favorite style of makeup to do? A: Beauty! I love to bring out the best of you, from subtle no-makeup makeup for a youthful headshot, to dramatic red carpet glam for a step and repeat. While I have dipped my brush into every aspect this industry, I am in love with beauty, whether it's a classic industrial or an elevated wedding. Q: How long have you been a freelance makeup artist in New York City? A: Since 2009, so not my entire adult life. Before that, I was in retail cosmetics. While studying art history at VCU, I was drawn to retail cosmetics and worked behind the counter at several department stores. From there I moved on to work at an Aveda Concept Salon where I enjoyed actually getting paid to apply makeup, not just selling it. Ultimately, I was asked to join the Aveda Global Team as a makeup trainer, headquartered in Minneapolis. That move was life changing on so many levels. It's where I met my husband <3 Q: Have you ever done film and television? A: Not enough, but you can find me on IMDb! http://www.imdb.com/JodyFormica |
