Jody on Makeup. Makeup on Jody.

My mother never wore much makeup, so she can't blame herself for the quantities of color I applied to my young face. Saturated shades of eye shadow and blush are a bit jarring to see on a pre-teen, but nothing or no one could stop me. Fortunately I found an outlet as makeup artist for theatrical productions in high school and at Virginia Commonwealth University. My most cosmetically concentrated year was between high school and university, when I lived in Cambridge, England. I was fortunate to have done makeup for nine productions with The ADC, Footlights & The Gilbert & Sullivan Society, to name a few, and painted the faces of some extraordinarily talented students.

At university, while studying art history, I found myself drawn to retail cosmetics and worked for several years as a professional makeup artist and skin care consultant at several department stores, then at an Aveda Concept Salon. I enjoyed the salon atmosphere and actually getting paid to apply makeup on clients! My success encouraged me to inquire with the Aveda distributor regarding employment as a regional makeup artist and soon I was traveling all over the Mid-Atlantic States as a makeup events specialist. My proficiency was observed at a three-day training at Aveda’s corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, and I soon joined the team as a global trainer, with whom I enjoyed the diverse responsibilities of writing, editing and presenting makeup classes and stage presentations.

Having moved to New York City, I languished on hiatus from makeup, but have recently re-launched my career as a freelance makeup artist and have enjoyed working with, for and on some beautiful brides and awesome actors.
